Chris Toprakcioglu is Professor of Physics in the Department of Physics, University of Patras. His research interests lie in the area of soft condensed matter physics, and in particular interfacial and nanostructured systems. His research is mainly focused on the study of polymers, amphiphiles and self-assembling systems at interfaces by neutron and x-ray reflectivity (NR/XR), small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), surface force measurements, FTIR, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and electron microscopy (EM). Recent research topics include:

Adsorption kinetics of block copolymers on solid substrates. Direct measurement of the interactions between polymer layers adsorbed at the solid-liquid interface. Polymer brushes on planar surfaces and under geometric confinement in porous nanomaterials. Behaviour of polymer brushes in strong shear flow regimes. Stimuli-responsive brushes. Fabrication and structural characterization of functional nanomaterials.

He has 52 publications in scientific journals and over 1800 citations with an h-index of 19. He has participated in over 40 international conferences and was invited speaker in 12. He has supervised a total of 17 PhD and MSc dissertations and has served as an examiner on PhD and MSc committees more than 20 times. He has taught numerous undergraduate and graduate courses in physics, chemical physics and polymer science.

He received his B.Sc. degree from George Washington University, USA in 1976 and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Cambridge in 1981. He served as postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Physics, University of Kent, UK (1981-1984), Research Associate in the Department of Physics, University of Cambridge, UK (1984-1986), Lecturer, Department of Physics, University of Cambridge, UK (1986-1993), Senior Scientific Officer, Agricultural and Food Research Council, UK (1985-1991). He was elected Associate Professor in the Department of Physics, University of Patras in 1993 and promoted to Full Professor in 2002. He has participated in several national as well as European-funded research projects and has collaborations with research groups from various institutions including Cambridge University, Leibniz Institut fur Polymerforschung, Laboratoire Leon Brillouin, Saclay, University of Edinburgh, Centre for Materials Science and Engineering and others. He is a referee for several international journals in the areas of physics, chemical physics and materials science.
